Kinect sensor is important in robotics world because is the first cheap sensor that allows the robot to see the world 3D. For 150$ the sensor
delivers a 3D map, a image sensor and sound. In conjunction with ROS(Robotic Operating System) from Willow Garages It could create a very cheap autonomous robot.
One of the problems with the sensor is that it behaves poorly in normal light condition(outside illumination). Kinect sensor could create a revolution in computing and robotics because is very capable and relatively cheap.
